Josephine Selander

Josephine Selander is an E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance, a member of The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and the founder of The Nordic Yoga Institute (Nordiska Yogainstitutet). Josephine is the main teacher for trainings conducted by The Nordic Yoga Institute and the initiator of a yoga physiotherapeutic rehabilitation project in cooperation with meds and physiotherapists.
Josephine has trained in Anusara, Ashtanga and Therapeutical Yoga in the US, UK and in India and she continues to study with: Doug Keller in Yoga Therapeutics, Alexander Borovik in Iyengar Yoga and with her mentor Sundari in Anusara Yoga. Other important teachers have been John Friend, Sri K Pattabhi Jois, Sarawati Jois, Usha Devi, Patricia Walden, Larry Schultz, Dharma Mitra, Rusty Wells, Cyndi Lee, Kia Meux and Carlos Pomeda. In 2007 she taught Virya yoga in more than 60 episodes on Swedish TV4.
Josephine is the author of the books Dynamisk Yoga (Dynamic Yoga), Våga Yoga (It’s all Yoga!), Yoga Från Insidan (Yoga from Within), Yoga för dig (Yoga for you) and Yoga & ACT. These books introduce Virya yoga’s three series, yoga, and ayurveda. She is currently working on her sixth book on eastern philosophy traditions in relation to the western thoughts and CBT.

During the last twenty years, the practice and philosophy of Zen buddhism has been a firm rooting in her life. Having trained as a professional dancer and actress, Josephine has over ten years experience in teaching communication and presentation techniques for large companies. She holds a Bachelor Degree in TV production, Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts (SADA). She is currently doing a Master Degree in History of Ideas at Stockholm University.

Valued for her theoretical comprehension and positive spirit she has spent the last decade teaching and training aspiring yoga teachers. Using her knowledge and experience from the worlds of dance, exercise, and yoga, she has together with Malin Flinck, a sports and dance osteopath, developed Virya yoga.
Josephine is renowned for her spirited, straightforward approach where she combines her extensive knowledge with a warm sense of friendly humor. A celebrated teacher internationally, she has held classes, workshops and retreats in Virya yoga the U.S.A., Asia, and Europe in addition to teaching sold-out classes at international yoga festivals in Europe.
